MMM'Shrooms - The Fungi Farm

Founder Q&A

Q · What inspired you to start this business?

My background in education converging with an obsession with mushrooms and a passion for nature and health. At its core MMM'shrooms is all about education and the spread of knowledge. I believe that mushrooms and fungi as a whole are an untapped resource that nature has provided us with to fix much of our impact on the world. From medicinal and nutritional qualities, construction materials and mycoremediation in soil, to water filtration and environmental cleanup; the possibilities seem endless. My goal is to spread my fascination with fungi to others. To provide Maine with quality, nutritious gourmet mushrooms and products that are good for your body and connect you with nature. Maybe to be the ripple that creates a wave of future mycologists and mushroom lovers.

Q · Why Maine?

Maine is my home, and we happen to have a unique environment being the most forested state in the U.S. My brand belongs here in New England and my home and heart belongs here in Maine. I believe Maine communities are ready for unique local gourmet produce.

Q · What makes your business unique?

We're mushroom OBSESSED of course! If it's mushroom or fungi related we know about it or want to know about it. We're constantly improving our setup and knowledge base about both gourmet grown varieties and foraged varieties here in Maine.

Q · What has been your biggest challenge?

Out biggest challenge would have to be overcoming the many misconceptions and sideways glances towards mushrooms as a whole. So many people think they don't like mushrooms (many of which I believe haven't had the right mushroom or haven't had them cooked properly). Many more are apprehensive at even trying mushrooms. But if you think about it, we as a species consume the Animal kingdom and the Plant kingdom but we have barely scratched the surface on the Fungi kingdom (the only other primary multicellular kingdom). What could we be missing by leaving fungi out of our diets? Nature provided it to us for a reason, and we are just now starting to see the research emerge that indicates how nutritional and medicinal mushrooms can be.

Q · What are you working on next?

We have a few new projects in the works currently. We are working on using our spent mushroom substrate (SMS) to create a nutrient rich compost. We are also working on processing our mushrooms into seasonings, powders, and soup mixes that we hope to roll out in the near future once our recipes are finalized and trials are completed.

Q · Which of your products/services is your favorite?

Lion's Mane, Black King Mushrooms, King Trumpet's

Q · Favorite spot in Maine?

Anywhere in the woods!
