Founder Q&A
We actually started with on accident. My husband and I were newly dating and a friend had asked him to fix their laser. He has a background in architecture and engineering so he started tinkering with projects, including a map of Casco Bay. We participated in a craft show shortly after and did very well so we decided to continue growing our business and become an official LLC! We are in our 4th season and are currently located in 22 stores across the state of Maine via consignment and wholesale.
Jen is a lifelong Mainer. She spent her time between her parent’s houses on the coast and in the mountains, which plays a huge role into the designs we produce.
We do everything in house from design to finished product. We literally work out of our house in Westbrook! Julian’s background in architecture and engineering makes it so we can customize just about every product we make.
In May of 2024 we welcomed our daughter Josie into the world at 27 weeks gestation. Because she came more than 3 months early, we basically moved into the hospital with her for 93 days. At the time, Jen was a full time elementary music teacher and Julian worked from home as a security system engineer. That summer we took a hiatus from Gallery 35 to focus all of our time and energy on Josie’s survival. Fast forward, we had our best year yet in 2025! Jen stepped away from teaching to be home with Josie full time, and had spent nap times and early bed times working on sanding, staining, and admin work. Julian spends his evenings designing files and is able to cut projects during the day. Josie comes along from drop offs during the week!
We are currently in the process of building a workshop on property to be able to move our business out of our home, but also have the flexibility of working just as we have been between our family schedules.
We have a 7 layer Sasquatch, who we have loving named “Squatchy”!
Wonderland in Bass Harbor! Just a mile or so up the road from Bass Harbor Lighthouse, it is one of those places that brings so much peace, awe, and wonder!
Jen: I play saxophone! Mostly classical, but as an adult I’ve become more confident in my improvisation abilities as well. Julian: I’m a huge Magic the Gathering fan!
